History of Oak Grove Baptist Church
The history of Oak Grove Baptist Church is the story of people with a vision from God going forward under His leadership and in full dependence on Him to bring that vision to reality. Birthed during the Great Depression, the church broadcast a beacon of hope through those darks days, through the grim uncertainty of World War II, through the sacrifice in Korea and Vietnam, through social upheaval bringing us into a new century, and through a global pandemic robbing more than a million lives.
With determination and faith, in times of adversity and tranquility, the mission has never wavered - to proclaim the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and expand His kingdom.
The Baptists of the Oak Grove community in Gray, Tennessee, did not have a church of their own before 1932.
An acre of land was given to build a church, and was deeded "for Baptist Church purposes" on June 27, 1932.
February 4, 1959, the church stepped out in faith, and launched a building program to replace the original structure. In less than two years, the building was finished providing thirty classrooms, office space, sanctuary with a seating capacity of 400 including a balcony, and a baptismal pool.
In 1982, Oak Grove Baptist Church celebrated their 50th Anniversary, and thoughts of an educational wing was in the making.
In 1990, the educational wing was in the works, and on June 9, 1991, a dedication service was held to celebrate the completion and blessing of the educational wing.
From then until present day, Oak Grove Baptist Church has held many projects and outreach to continue the legacy of expanding His kingdom and reaching and ministering to those in the Oak Grove community and further.
